The 7Rs of NuLink

Picture
NuLink Charter School launches and operates an excellent school, committed to the mission of ensuring that all students matriculate to a four-year college or university or successfully enter the work force. While the culture of the school greatly reflects the principal and his or her faculty, clearly identifiable commonalities across the school and within the system pervade. The unifying principles are known as the Seven Rs of Education.

RIGOR: Each student in every grade is expected to achieve at high levels. Only when we raise expectations can students from our community truly access the American dream.  NuLink students who choose to pursue a post-secondary education are on the college track.  If students choose to enter the workforce following graduation, they will be equally prepared for a successful career for any occupation that requires a high school diploma.

RELEVANCE: Teachers work closely with students to guide them toward achieving ambitious goals. Students have choices in many projects, allowing them to design learning that is significant in their own goals and interests. Instruction, assessments, and projects will be achieved using appropriate technology with a view toward the future.  At NuLink, students visit a variety of colleges and universities across the nation to consider these schoolsas a tangible possibility if their goal is to continue their education in college.

RELATIONSHIPS & RESPECT: NuLinks’s small teacher to student ratio (1:20 average) transforms school from an impersonal institution to an intimate learning community where students and parents know that faculty, staff, and administrators care for each student. From the beginning, parents have a criticalrole in helping their child succeed at NuLink.

RESPONSIBILITY: Students and parents sign a contract upon enrolling at NuLink, whereby they commit to high standards of academic study. Since students have a major role in setting their own graduation paths, they are accountable to themselves as well as to the school.  Students also agree to courteous personal conduct and respect for others. Classrooms and hallways at NuLink are orderly and safe. A sense of purpose pervades the campus.

REFLECTION: Faculty plan meaningful, high quality lessons and pour over student work and achievement data to ensure that every student is on track. Intervention for struggling students is swift and effective. Teachers and administrators continuously strive to improve.  Students will reflect on their products and achievement, continually participating in self-analysis and improvement.

RESULTS: Student achievement is the bottom line. Success is defined by considerable, measurable gains in student achievement. NuLink and their students have an impressive track record of success.

REAL TIME: There are no shortcuts to earning a NuLink diploma: students spend more time in school through a longer school year; while in school, classrooms are orderly and focused to ensure optimal student learning.
